As a listed private equity vehicle that is traded on the London Stock Exchange, PIP provides a liquid alternative to investing in private equity via the typical limited partnership structure.
Key Advantages of a Listed Private Equity Structure
Access: Listed private equity offers the opportunity for retail investors as well as institutions to participate in a diversified portfolio of mainly unlisted companies, for the minimum price of one share.
Management: Listed vehicles handle cash management and administration of private equity funds, which can be complex for a portfolio of Limited Partnership interests. All listed private equity investors need do is monitor the value of their shareholdings in the quoted vehicle itself.
Liquidity: By buying shares in a listed private equity company, the investor benefits from the liquidity obtained from the shares trading on an exchange. Alternative, non-listed private equity structures, such as limited partnerships, require high minimum commitments and a lock-up of typically ten years.
Tax: Capital gains within an investment trust structure are retained within the vehicle and are not taxed.
LPEQ is a not-for-profit industry association of a broad range of listed private equity investment companies and similar vehicles, listed on the London Stock Exchange and other major European Exchanges. PIP is one of the founding members of LPEQ.
